A Hootenanny and Goffs' Surrounding Towns

A Hootenanny at Goffs!

My butt is sticking out because we were bouncing up and down. Hillbillies are secure in their sexuality.

Me, my dad and my Aunt Sharon.

Goffs and the surrounding towns

My mom.

A yucca plant.

Essex, Ca., which is about 15 miles away from Goffs, and had a population of between 100 and 200. The building on the left is the post office.

This is a one room schoolhouse in Essex, Ca. I went to school here for one year, and one year only.

Another view of the schoolhouse. I hated school here. HATED it. Now it's abandoned, and there's no love lost on my part.

Back in Goffs. This is a schoolhouse that was falling apart when I lived in Goffs until a cowboy moved in and fixed it up. A few years later, a historian came in and fixed it up even more. He now lives there and is a Goffs historian. Seriously.

Inside the schoolhouse, which is now a museum. I used to have piano lessons on this piano. The cowboy who fixed the schoolhouse had a wife, and this was her piano.

Me, my mom, the Goffs historian and his wife.

That's what my dad called it! He even called it a hillbilly hootenanny. And what's wrong with that, classist?

Eventually! It just takes so damn long to upload video. But I have a bunch to come. It was a bunch of country classics, and some other stuff as well (gospel, a few rock tunes, etc.). Nothing sucked. And I forgot how much I like Marty Robbins.

I have such an urge to visit the southwest lately. I love these posts.

Thanks. My plan is to visit more often, for sure. I'd love to winter there, and escape the evil that is NYC winter.

Is there anything particularly different about the wilderness on THIS side of the boundary?

No, I'm in Bushwick. I just thought your photo of the "Wilderness Boundary" post was amusing.

Did it not cross the line from Hootenanny to a Balls-out Jamboree once the musical instruments (and the gingham bonnet) came out?

As far as I know Hootenanny and Jamboree are interchangeable, but in this case I know nothing.

So much light in that room.
That tortoise is really random.

The tortoise lives in my dad's yard, along with two others. And the desert has no shortage of light.
